When Sara Agar Interiors approached us to transform the staircase in a grand Oxfordshire home, we knew it was a project where craftsmanship and attention to detail would make all the difference. The double sweeping staircase, with its elegant gallery landing, had originally been carpeted, so our first task was meticulous preparation: filling every pinhole and ensuring the wood was perfectly ready to take its new finish.

The handrail was carefully stripped back to the bare oak, revealing the character and warmth of the natural timber. We applied a medium grey stain that enhances the grain, creating a soft, warm grey finish that feels both contemporary and timeless. The staircase now stands as a striking focal point, marrying understated elegance with the natural beauty of oak, and perfectly complementing the home’s refined interiors.
